Clog's Hibernating For The Winter

So....I had a great Christmas and I hope you did as well.  For a week or two I hardly thought about gutters. The snow fell and our business slowed down in it's usual winter way as the freeze set in...something I look forward to every year after the extreme busyness of the fall season. Most people will not give their gutters another thought until the snow melts. The trouble is that there will be a rude awakening for anyone who didn't clean their gutters out in the fall. Since the debris will have been left in the gutters to hibernate all winter long when the cold rains of April come you will have to get on the ladder and do a most unpleasant job. The leaves will have turned into a stinky muck and your gutters will be a chore to clean. Waiting For Them All To Fall

Many people wait until all the leaves fall off the trees before they clean their gutters. While this sounds like an efficient way of thinking it is really a recipe for trouble. We were at a job yesterday where the customer had cleaned his gutters a week before we came to install. When we got on the ladder to prepare the gutters for Leaf Solution we found that there was already enough debris in them to stop the flow of water and cause overflow. The following weekend after that job there were rain showers (Oct 23 and 24). What if this customer had waited until the last leaf falls before dealing with his gutters? He would have had overflow which causes damage. There is going to be a lot of rain between now and the end of November. Even then there are some trees which will not have dropped all their leaves. Mrs. Franklin's Divine Appointment

Mrs. Franklin was so happy that she did not have to replace her gutters. Her neighbor had bought one of the big name 'reverse curve' systems last year and decided right then that she wanted maintenance free gutters too someday. She tried to call that company, but no one answered the phone. She found my number and gave me a call. The whole time I measured she was nervous about what the price would be because she knew what her neighbor had spent on his. I reassured her that, since her gutters were in perfectly good condition, she would not have to pay nearly as much as what her neighbor did. Today I was at a house in Chicago giving an estimate for Leaf Solution. My customer certainly had enough trees around his house to justify having an estimate. He also takes good care of his gutters. He told me that he is on the ladder multiple times every year cleaning them out. If he does not clean them out then he ends up having water seeping into his basement.
