How Often Do I Need To Clean My Gutters?

How often do you have to clean out your gutters?  Of course, the answer depends on many things.  What type of trees surround your house?  When do the leaves fall?  Does debris come down in the spring as well as the fall?  After 11 years of helping people with gutter guard products I can tell you that the vast majority of them admit to cleaning them only twice a year.  It makes sense...when all the seeds are finished coming down in the spring you clean them, and when all the leaves are done coming down in the fall you clean them.  If cleaning efficiency were all that was important then these people would be on the right track.  The trouble is that while they are waiting for the debris to finish coming down, the rain hasn't been waiting and the gutters will have overflowed many times.  They wait so they will only have to clean them once...too bad the rain doesn't wait too.

The truth is that it only takes a handful of debris to clog a gutter at the downspout outlet.  That's right...hold out your hand and think about it, just a handful.  I always commend anyone who cleans their gutters even if it is only once a year.  This shows me that they care about their home.  But to really help I have to tell them that despite their best efforts they really need a product that will keep the leaves out at all times.  Since the rain is unpredictable then you need gutter protection that is reliable.  The best type of products that I have found are the ones made with micro mesh. The best one, of course, is Leaf Solution since they are the original and therefore have patents on the best manufacturing process.  Leaf Solution is installed by professional installers and is sturdy enough to hold up the the winter weather.
